The Sun is enjoying its brightest patch for two years, with recent victories over teams including Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury.
Griffin had a strong match against Liberty last week, scoring 12 points and pulling in nine rebounds as her side got over the line 76-72 without two of its big guns, Allison Hightower and Chiney Ogwumike.
Coach Anne Donovan singled out Griffin for her hustling, saying it's little things she does that don't always show up on the stats sheet that make her contribution so important to the team.
Connecticut started June sitting on the bottom of the WNBA east conference ladder, but a 6-1 record this month has seen the side rocket up to second.
It was the league's worst team in 2013, winning just 10 of 34 matches.
Sun was scheduled to take the court at home against Sky at 9am Thursday local time, then play Washington and New York on the road over the weekend.
