The television in court room two was being used for a video link to a remote witness room but the on-screen image disappeared mid-way through the prosecution's questioning of a witness who was also the complainant in the matter.
Court staff checked the television leads but were still unable to establish a connection to enable the proceedings to continue.
Technical support was given over the phone but the court room soon filled with a burning smell, with the common consensus in the court room that a fuse had blown.
Court staff were unable to find another available court room with video link facilities and proceedings were held-up for at least two hours while the technical fault was fixed.
The accused in the matter, Sonny Middleton from Bendigo, has pleaded not guilty to unlawful assault.
The complainant is a woman from Germany who has been living in Australia for 20 months and was working for Red Energy as a door-to-door sales person at the time of the alleged incident.
After waiting for the technical issue to be resolved, defense counsel Russell Kelly told Magistrate Cottrill it was apparent to both parties the matter would not be completed within a day because of the hold ups.
Mr Kelly raised concerns about the matter being part-heard and said "much is lost in passage of time".
The matter has been adjourned to a later date.
