Patrons from more than eight churches celebrated the anniversary of the Uniting Church with a combined churches service and lunch at the Bendigo's Forest Street Uniting Church.
The Uniting Church was formed in June, 1977, when the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches joined to form a new denomination.
Sunday's special service was also a celebration of UnitingCare Bendigo's 20th anniversary.
UnitingCare Bendigo provides emergency relief to thousands of people in the Bendigo district every year, as well as operating an economical print service and five opportunity shops which serve the community.
Moderator of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania Dan Wootton was a guest speaker at the service.
Mr Wootton said it was great to be in Bendigo for the celebrations.
