MORE than 10,000 ‘Thank You Fireys’ Red Balloons have now been sold as part of National Red Balloon Day.
NRBD coordinator Jody Hardiman said she was "overwhelmed" by the success of the event.
“In the last few days we have been getting orders of 250 to 500 balloons from businesses and a couple of MPs, and even the Premier Denis Napthine’s office has ordered a large quantity,” she said.
“There are schools coming on board as well. Golden Square Primary School is holding a celebration on February 28; that’s fantastic they got on board.
“We are getting lots of support in South Australia and Western Australia as well.
“It is hard to judge but we are hoping the final figures will be over $10,000. It has been amazing.
“We have received support from everyone from Joe Blow to the Premier.
“It is something that affects everyone.”
Organisers will be at the IGA in Long Gully this Sunday handing out balloons.
NRBD takes place on February 28.
