Artist Yvonne George, has been chosen to create a sculpture for the next stage of Axedale’s Project Platypus.

Ms George won the panel over with an aerial view interpretation of a platypus creating rippled water movements.

The sculpture, which be installed by July, will be made of steel and will stand over two metres tall.

Ms George said she was excited to be chosen.

“The river reserve is such a beautiful, peaceful spot and I am excited to be commissioned to produce a significant sculpture for this site and the Axedale community,” she said.

Axedale Our Town - Our Future president Yvonne Wrigglesworth said the sculpture would become a spectacular feature to visit.

“It was a hard job choosing the winner but it was very exciting,” she said.

“We are certain that the platypus will quickly become an Axedale icon.”

The group is holding a workshop on Wednesday at 7pm on the Axedale River Reserve to allow the community to contribute ideas for inscriptions on the sculpture.

“I would encourage anyone interested in having input to come along to the community consultation,” Ms George said.
