FIRE fighters endured what has been described as "filthy country" to control a fire which threatened homes in Sedgwick, Axe Creek, Emu Creek, Harcourt North and Sutton Grange.
About 35 Country Fire Authority trucks, aircraft and Department of Environment and Primary Industry staff took more than eight hours to contain the fire which started about 7pm in North Harcourt Road on Saturday.
Sedgwick CFA incident controller Alan Roberts said crews overcame rugged terrain to control the blaze which burnt 200 hectares of grassland.
Mr Roberts said no homes were destroyed and the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
"At times the fire was able to move much quicker than the trucks could drive," he said.
"It moved in a north-easterly direction towards Wilkinsons Road.
"Everyone did a great job - it was a good effort."
