The NBA schedule is definitely a whirlwind. We played four games this week.
The first against Minnesota at home, then we headed out on the road for games at Milwaukee and Philadelphia before heading back home to play Philadelphia.
As I write, we are heading back out on the road to Chicago.
We started off the week with a good win versus Minnesota, who are led by all-star Kevin Love.
We then went down at Milwaukee, who were missing three of their starters.
That shows that you have to be ready to play every night in this league, no matter who might be out for a team.
One of our games was in Philadelphia where scenes of the Rocky movies were filmed.
There is the classic scene of Rocky Balboa running up the stairs of the Museum of Art at the end of one of his workouts.
I love the Rocky movies, so I checked it out after training.
My family wanted some video footage so I sent that home. My sister, Ingrid, sent back the video clip with the Rocky theme music to it. I put the short video up on my Instagram (@matthewdelly) so check that out!
After having a great first quarter, we had a poor rest of the game to lose 94-79 at Philadelphia.
After the game it was great to catch up with Cale Urwin, who I played some junior basketball with in Bendigo.
Also, had a good chat with Daniel Menzel from the Geelong Football Club, who has had multiple ACL injuries. He keeps a very positive attitude despite the setbacks.
The next night we played a double overtime thriller at home against Philadelphia.
We eventually got over the line through a tough lay-up from Kyrie Irving, who had a great game, 39 points and 12 assists.
I got a chance to play early in the game and help contribute which was great.
@keriangrobinson: What’s a typical game day?
A typical game day for me at home starts with getting some shots up before the team shoot around.
The team shoot around usually involves some video, going through our plays and going through the other team’s plays, talking about how we will defend certain actions.
I eat lunch at the training facility, then head home for a nap.
I make my way to the Arena for an individual on-court workout, usually two to three hours before the game, then go to the weight room and get a lift in.
Relax for a little bit, then grab some food in the family room with fellow rookie Sergey Karasev.
Stretch out, get taped, then it’s time for the coaches pre-game talk and then it’s game time.
It was great to see the Saint Mary’s Gaels have a good win in their first game of the season.
By the sound of it, and from what I saw in September, the boys are in for a big year.
If anyone would like to hear about anything in particular, you can tweet me @matthewdelly.
Have a great week.
