Jamie died in 2010 in a single-vehicle accident on the way to pick up friends from a party. But his family are committed to make sure something positive comes out of their loss.
In memory of her son, Lynn Holden has established the Jamie Southwell Memorial Scholarship.
“It’s a scholarship to support the relocation of regional students to Melbourne,” she said.
“The challenges financially and emotionally are hard, so we just felt if we could help another family and take some pressure off, that’s the least we could do.
“We supported two students for 2011 and this year we have been able to support another three. We can’t change what’s happened, so we just want to help another family out.”
On July 21 the family will hold a special event at the Bendigo Pottery Function Centre, from 7pm, to raise money for the scholarship.
There will be music trivia, a silent auction and live music with local Bendigo band Itchy Bits.
Tickets are $25 and include supper. For bookings, contact Rob Holden on 0404 943 069 or rob@goldfieldscatering.com.au
Donations to the Jamie Southwell Memorial Scholarship can be made online at www.bendigobank.com.au/foundation/jamies or at any Bendigo Bank branch. Businesses wanting to donate an item for the silent auction can contact Mr Holden.
