The annual awards night will see more names added to the honour lists for the Sports Star Of The Year, Hall Of Fame, Maxine Crouch Trust Fund, Cyril Michelsen Trust Fund and Sports Focus Administrator Of The Year.
These awards are historically seen as reward and recognition for countless hours of hard work and dedication by the region’s best sporting stars and officials. This year’s awards recognise a wide range of sports. It’s great to see sports that aren’t thought of as mainstream winning monthly awards. Badminton, judo, drug-free powerlifting and walking will all gain great exposure when monthly award winners take the stage to accept their statues.
The Sports Star awards are designed to recognise those who have gained high levels of achievement in their chosen sports through the past 12 months. It’s a chance for the community to honour these sportsmen and sportswomen. It’s proof that this community respects and recognises those who do well in their sporting endeavours.
While the awards reward those who have performed to a high standard throughout the year, they should also inspire others to strive for such success.
It’s great to see Victorian Minister for Sport Hugh Delahunty attending the awards along with other politicians from all sides. Such high level representation is important to the status of the Sports Star awards.
The Sports Star concept would not be possible without the backing of major sponsor bankmecu and that support is truly valued. Good luck to all nominees in tonight’s awards. To finish with an old and well worn but worthy sporting cliche... you are all winners.
