A WOMAN was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with fractured legs after the car she was travelling in hit a truck in a head-on collision on the Calder Alternate Highway near Ravenswood yesterday.

SES workers and CFA members took more than 90 minutes to free the woman, who was trapped by the legs in the car, after the accident just before 5.20pm.
Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Gabrielle Degenharde said the other occupant of the car, a woman in her 30s and the driver of a truck, a man in his 60s, were both taken to Bendigo Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident caused the closure of the road between the Calder Highway and Bendigo-Maldon Road for three hours.
Acting Sergeant Kevyn Hume-Cook said police believed the crash was caused by bald tyres on the wet road.
“We are possibly looking into the truck not being in fully roadworthy condition and the wet roads,” he said.
“It seems like it’s a combination of that.
“We ask people to make sure their tyres are in a roadworthy state, because it only takes a little bit of water to make them slippery and the vehicle hard to control.”
