The 19-year-old will study a three year course in outdoor education and then complete a one year diploma of education.
Michael said he chose to be a student at La Trobe University Bendigo because the campus suited his needs.
“I have heard they have really good outdoor education facilities so it was the obvious choice,” he said.
Michael said he applied to live on campus in order to make friends.
“I attended the orientation day and the units had a good social feel to them,” he said.
Michael said he moved into his accommodation on Thursday and said he was enjoying himself so far.
“I have found it very fun,” he said.
“I am looking forward to the week.”
Michael took a break from study last year and said he was used to living out of home.
He said he had made some good friends since moving to Bendigo.
“I have meet heaps of people so far and everyone is really fun,” Michael said. “It is like we have already been friends for a long time.”
Michael said he was looking forward to university classes starting although he did not expect his timetable to be very busy.?
