Helen Farrar, who works at the Bendigo Special Development School was nominated by her daughter Jessica and said she was blessed to have such a wonderful daughter.
“It is very special to win the award,” she said.
“You don’t expect your kids to actually go ahead and enter you in these things.”
Two years ago Jessica became chronically ill after she was bitten by a dog and said her mum had spent a lot of time caring for her.
“Mum never looks for a thank you,” she said.
“She would do anything for me so that’s why I nominated her.”
Helen said her greatest achievements were Jessica and her son Luke and she was thankful everyday for her children.
The Barnardos Australia’s Mother of the Year Awards, supported by ALDI Australia, provides an opportunity for mothers to be recognised for the wonderful contribution they make to the lives of their family and community.
Each week a mother is selected as a winner, with the Mother of the Year awards scheduled to be announced in May this year.
