Charity co-founder Chris Morley was on hand to donate $10,000 to the long-term housing facility for homeless youth yesterday.
Bendigo for Homeless Youth achieved its aim to raise $100,000 last year for Haven to develop a long-term housing project for the homeless. Chris Morley said whatever was raised above the $100,000 target was given to Horizon House to educate the four young residents of the house.
“We smashed the goal we set ourselves and Horizon was always on the cards as a charity to donate to (because) it’s for the same cause and they are very active in this area,” he said.
Horizon House chairman Robert Cook said he was thrilled to be announced the charity’s beneficiary for 2013.
“We are absolutely ecstatic,” he said.
“We are very fortunate to have an organisation like this behind us.
“It’s great to see young people help other young people.”
Mr Morley said Bendigo for Homeless Youth would continue to hold fund-raisers throughout the year, but not as frequently as in 2012.
