Fire under control in Kennington

FIRE has destroyed the roof of a family home in Glencoe Street, Kennington.

Fire fighters responded to the blaze at about 11.10am and brought the fire under control in about ten minutes.

Neighbours said a mother with three young children was in the home at the time of the blaze and evacuated the weatherboard premises.

Her children took shelter in a nearby home and the family was eventually taken away by friends.

Fire crews are still on the scene and are investigating the incident.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
