has taken out the Bendigo stage of the Herald-Sun Tour.
The 21-year-old from New South Wales defeated Calvin Watson and Josh Atkins in a sprint finish at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
The trio were the only surviving members of a breakaway group that contained as many as seven riders.
The lead group established a six minute break on the peloton midway through the 147km stage from Sunbury.
But led by the Jayco Australian National Team, the peloton picked up the tempo in the final 50km to finish just two minutes behind Donnelly, who rides for the Huon Salmon-Genesys Wealth Advisers team.
All the tour's big guns finished in the peloton.
Riders battled temperatures in the high 30's for the majority of the stage.
More details to follow.
