Victory Christian College will offer places for year 11 students in 2013 and year 12 classes the following year.
VCC Principal Anne Marie Rodgers said the Strathdale campus was rapt to have state government approval for the college to begin VCE.
She said it would cater for the higher demand of families looking for VCE places in the city.
“I think it will be a boost for Bendigo to secure another quality VCE option for local students,” she said. “I look at cities like Ballarat where there’s many option for families.
“Our school board, staff and parents have worked extremely hard for a long time to make this happen.”
Mrs Rodgers said schools that offered a prep to year 12 option allowed teachers to get to know their students as they progressed.
“One thing we can offer is that we know the students really well,” she said. “Because we’re a small provider we’ll be able to have a good understanding of the students. We have families enrolling kids now so their children can finish VCE there.”
The college, which opened in 1995 as a ministry expression of History Makers Church, aims to serve the Christian community in Bendigo and surrounding districts.
Mrs Rodgers said families from all around the region, from as far as 70km away, sent their chidren to the college.
“We’re in an excellent position with Strathdale to one side of our campus and Strathfieldsaye the other. On the other hand, Victory Christian College draws students from all Bendigo suburbs and across central Victoria.”
Mrs Rodgers said applications were still open for year 11 students enrolling in 2013.
