Sonia Kellogg of Castlemaine was shocked when her son, Damon, arrived two weeks early at Castlemaine Hospital.
“It was definitely a big shock,” she said.
“We’re feeling happy, relieved and excited.
“It’s a great Christmas present, one of the best Christmas presents you could get.”
Donna Papworth of Goornong said she was relieved when daughter Laura was born safely at Bendigo Hospital.
“I think it’s special in its own right because I’ve got a healthy little girl,” she said.
“I don’t think being Christmas Day adds to that, but there is a bit of hype about it.
“You don’t expect it and it wasn’t planned that way, but she decided to come.
“It will make birthdays interesting in the future.”
Ms Papworth said her family would probably celebrate Laura’s future birthdays early in the year.
“She’s gotten a few little stuffed toys for Christmas already,” she said.
Robert Bruce, whose fiancee Samantha McAllister gave birth to Madelyn, said the timing had been perfect.
“It’s a happy time; because it’s holidays the family were over from Adelaide, with the exception of my brother who’s in Afghanistan,” the Bendigo resident said.
“We’ll probably celebrate her birthday in June because with family coming from interstate for Christmas it gets a bit crazy.
“Everything was handled really well by the hospital and it was a relief when we got to hold the baby.
“Everyone was really supportive and it’s been fantastic.”
Three babies were born in Bendigo and one each at Castlemaine and Echuca.
