Senior Station Officer Mick Lavery said fire crews were able to celebrate a Christmas family lunch together with no major incidents reported.
“Usually you get a call out just as you’re about to sit down to eat,” he said.
“The tradition is to get all the families together. It’s always good to get the odd quiet moment to sit down and enjoy Christmas together.”
Members of the brigade spent Christmas morning delivering Trauma Teddy bears to the Child and Adolescent Unit at Bendigo Hospital, before helping set up the Bendigo community Christmas lunch.
Mr Lavery said the lunch at the Hargreaves Street fire station was smaller than previous years, but was a fun tradition.
“It’s always a good day. It’s nice to be able to involve families,” he said.
Mr Lavery said the crew that were on yesterday would also work on New Year’s Eve, but would enjoy a rest after that.
