Four rescued after rubber boat capsizes

A MAN has been flown to hospital, breathing but unconscious, after the rubber boat he was in capsized near Venus Bay in Victoria's south-east this afternoon.

The man was taken by helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition, while three other men who were in the boat when it overturned at 2.30pm are safe according to a spokeswoman from Ambulance Victoria.

"I don't think they were too far out to sea," the spokeswoman said. "We were told it was a rubber boat".

Police are on the scene but a spokeswoman said poor phone reception is hampering communication.
