The tower, which recently reopened after upgrades, has a metal plaque directing visitors to nearby landmarks and towns.
But the plaque has been incorrectly installed, with the “north” pointer actually facing in an easterly direction.
The sign says the Sacred Heart Cathedral lies in bushland near Strathfieldsaye and suggests Bendigo is actually Mt Marne.
Shane Harvey, who recently moved to the area, was a little bemused by the sign yesterday and pointed out several points where it was wrong.
Parks Victoria employed a contractor to install the plaque, which is stuck firmly in place.
Parks Victoria visitor services co-ordinator Roy Speechle said the problem would be fixed this morning.
“The plaque on the One Tree Hill Tower was installed incorrectly by a contractor,” he said.
“It will be rectified tomorrow morning and will be pointing in the correct direction.”
