Few would say it’s been a smooth ride for traders and shoppers alike.
But it seems like a new leaf has turned over at the mall.
Last night’s twilight market had all the right ingredients and it was only bad luck in the form of a heavy downpour that soured the event.
But it’s the kind of event Bendigo needs.
The city lacks a real main street and a focal point.
Activating the mall with events and activities can help to solve this and make the city a more inviting place.
It’s often the smallest and simplest of activities that are the most enjoyable.
Walk along one of the main streets in Melbourne or Sydney and you’ll be greeted by highly talented performers plying their trade.
More buskers are performing in Hargreaves Mall, each adding a little bit of value to the strip.
While last night’s market was a little too weather-affected to properly evaluate, it’s the kind of thing the mall needs.
If Bendigo can create an interesting environment in Hargreaves Mall that attracts people to the area, it would be highly valued.
The council is slowly getting there.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the mall and what exciting new events will be put on.
