City of Greater Bendigo customer service manager Debbie Thewlis said there had been a “wonderful response” from the community after the event almost did not go ahead this year.
“We’re pretty happy and given the limited time, we’re pretty sure we’ll have a lot of fun on the night,” she said.
“We’re hoping people will support it now that it is happening.”
Ms Thewlis said there was plenty to attract families to the event.
“We have the children performers on early on, but we really do have something for everyone.”
The weather also looks like it will co-operate with organisers, with a forecast of a maximum of 28 degrees during the day and getting down to 12 degrees at night.
“We’re hoping we escape the rain due on Saturday,” Ms Thewlis said. “But it’s the one thing we can’t control.”
Ms Thewlis also paid tribute to the community members and businesses who have volunteered their time and resources to make the night happen.
Children’s entertainer Brett Gregory is bringing his form of interactive, physical humour to the night.
He said he put his hand up to perform at the Christmas tree light up as soon as he heard of its plight. “I heard about it and thought, ‘I have to see if there’s anything I could do’.
“I am very pleased to be involved in something that almost didn’t happen.”
The former Tasmanian said the night would provide the opportunity to entertain children and adults alike.
“It’s a good way for me to introduce myself to the children of Bendigo,” he said.
