3BO FM breakfast show hosts Cogho and Beck were confirmed as MCs for the night, yesterday.
The council announced the night would start at 7pm with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 9pm.
CV Dance Studio, Hey dee ho music Bendigo, Brett Gregory and Bendigo Youth Choir will take centre stage to entertain the crowd through the event.
Other features of the light up event will include a visit by Santa about 8.50pm, the drawing of a Bendigo Advertiser competition for one lucky person present on the night to “flick the switch” on the tree, and a speech from Greater Bendigo mayor Lisa Ruffell.
Beck and Cogho have also planned Bendigo’s biggest “pop off” competition for the night with a grand-holiday prize for one lucky winner.
Council officials held a site meeting yesterday morning with some of the people who called the Bendigo Advertiser on Tuesday to donate their time and expertise for the light up event.
Bendigo Party Hire has donated the stage for the event.
David and Suzie Dewar from Dewar Audio Systems will provide a public address system.
Mrs Dewar said the couple was pleased to support the event.
“I think it’s very important to Bendigo and I think it’s important for kids, families and Christmas spirit in Bendigo,” she said.
Mrs Dewar said the business was in for a busy Friday with a teacher from their Dewar Music School also performing in Hargreaves Mall from 11.30am that day.
She said staff would move the audio equipment to the Rosalind Park Christmas tree area straight after the mall performance.
Bendigo Youth Choir gathered last night to finalise arrangements for a 30-minute performance.
Founder and artistic director Valerie Broad said between 25 and 30 choir members of all ages would perform with a little help from Spring Gully Primary School students.
She said the choir would have an extra practise session tonight to prepare for the light up event.
Ms Broad said the choir would perform a Christmas medley and a song called Cover The World With Love, which was performed with sign language.
“At the moment we’re trying to sort out what else we are going to sing,” she said.
