CFA district 20 operations officer Peter Taylor said it appeared the blaze was caused by lightning, but investigations were continuing.
He said up to 80 officers from the CFA and Department of Sustainability and Environment fought the blaze, which started about 4.30pm.
The fire was brought under control by about 7pm and crews worked for a further six hours to ensure the area was safe.
“The fuels there were very dry and water was a particular issue for the crew,” Mr Taylor said.
“There aren’t that many dams or water supplies to refill the trucks and that was one of the biggest impediments to controlling the fire.”
