The 28-year-old mother was at her Kangaroo Flat home with her five-year-old daughter and twin two-year-old sons when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the Pattison Drive property.
The woman said she heard a loud noise just after 10pm and discovered grass near her car was alight.
She said she was too scared to stay in the house after the incident. “It was terrifying. I was stunned,” she said.
“There was thunder and lightning so I thought it was thunder but then I realised someone had thrown something over my fence.
“After the police came, I packed up everything and took my kids to a friend’s place to stay the night.
The woman said she had found the neighbourhood to be very safe and quiet since she moved there in May. “That’s why I can’t believe it happened.”
She said she was still concerned for the safety of her children.
“I just keep thinking what if it had hit my car and it had exploded.
“We wouldn’t still be here.”
The family are now back living at the property.
“I’m not going to be scared out of my house,” the woman said. “The kids are fine. They weren’t worried because they didn’t see anything.”
Police are still investigating and are appealing for any witnesses or people with information to come forward.
