O’Shea and Keisse withstood a fierce challenge from world madison champions Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke, with the event not decided until the final sprint.

It was O’Shea’s first win at Ghent and the fifth time Keisse has taken out the prestigious event.

This was also the first time the pair had raced together.

Belgian duo De Ketele and Van Hoecke only trailed by six points heading into the final sprint of the madison race on day six.

But Van Hoecke crashed as De Ketele was hand-slinging him back into the action.

Keisse held off De Ketele to secure the overall win.

Keisse praised O’Shea, who won the omnium world title on the track in Melbourne earlier this year.

The Australian was a member of the squad that won silver in the team pursuit at the London Olympics and was fifth in the omnium at the Games.

O’Shea was second in the omnium at last week’s World Cup round in Glasgow.
