Acting Sergeant Jan Stroek said the incident occurred at the corner of Mostyn and Hargreaves streets about 3.30pm.
“A female driver didn’t like being informed of the road rules,” he said. “She and two other females got out and started yelling abuse at the male driver.
“Then a young male passenger got out and started assaulting the male driver. He was throwing stubbies straight at his head, luckily the man was able to duck.”
Acting Sergeant Stroek said the victim, who was in his 40s, was then punched and received cuts to his face.
“The male offender kicked the car door and smashed the window,” he said.
Acting Sergeant Stroek said the male offender, 19, was charged with assault related offences and criminal damage and was bailed to appear in the Castlemaine Magistrates Court on January 18.
