Boxes of bees, honey and containers of water fell from the truck’s load when one of its tyres broke off about 8.30am.
Senior Constable Travis Wyatt said there was a significant amount of debris spilled from the truck.
“There’s lots of angry bees everywhere,” he said.
“The truck lost its wheel and its entire load spilled out onto the side of the road.”
Traffic has been slowed at the intersection of Bendigo-Maryborough road and Bradford road, with police still on scene.
Apiarists have assisted with the collection of the bees.
City of Greater Bendigo council was also called to help in with directing traffic.
The road is expected to reopen about 11am.
