Passengers on the Bendigo, Ballarat, and Seymour lines have gained extra trains and more seats – but journeys are likely to take longer under the new timetable.
Services have been operating more slowly under the new timetable, which came into effect Sunday.
A V/Line spokesman said the fastest train journey from Bendigo to Melbourne had increased from one hour 31 minutes to one hour 42 minutes.
Local buses that stop at Bendigo railway station also have new timetables.
Transport Minister Terry Mulder said the new timetable would reduce overcrowding on Kyneton, Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill line trains, particularly during peak periods.
