Golden Square staff and players are in a meeting now discussing Weeks' shock decision.
The full-forward had signed with the club for the 2013 season, but has had a change of heart in recent weeks.
"I went to school in Rochester, I've always wanted to play in the GVFL,'' Weeks told the Bendigo Advertiser.
"It's the hardest decision I've had to make in footy, but I want to give myself every chance of succeeding in the GVFL and this is the right time for me to go.
"I've got a lot of mates at Rochester which is a big attraction for me, it's only 20 minutes from my farm at Colbo and there's the lure of playing a better standard of footy.
"I loved my time at Square and I'll always cherish it and I'm sure I'll end up back at the club down the track."
