This is just another example of how to destroy a public facility.
Close it, don’t use it, don’t expend any finance on it for maintenance so it can be used, and then make statements “that it does not provide for the community standards and is too costly to do anything with”.
A self-fulfilling prophecy to make it happen.
In light of the proposed development of Golden Square Primary School in Maple Street to cater for some 400 students and the closure of the Laurel Street Campus, the Golden Square Pool should have been kept with state government support and sports grants.
With all the new development in housing at Golden Square, has the council carried out a demographic survey to ascertain the increase in schoolchildren in the area?
Students from the Maple Street school will have to travel by bus to either Bendigo or the new Kangaroo Flat pool for their summer pool sport, thereby creating costs and congestion on roads and parking.
Is this forward thinking, or just economic rationalism at its worst?
