A teenage girl has been hailed a hero after saving a runaway school bus from hitting a busy petrol station. CCTV captured the heart-stopping near-miss in NSW's Northern Rivers region town of Casino on November 22. The footage shows the bus rolling across a road and directly towards motorists filling up cars with petrol when it veers away at the last moment and avoids any collision. A man is seen holding on to the front of the bus and running alongside it, trying in vain to stop the impending crash. The petrol station, North Casino Mini Mart, shared its gratitude to school student Izzy Miller who was on the bus at the time in a post on Facebook. "A school bus parked at the high school has somehow rolled away without the driver," the post read. "Quick thinking teenager Izzy Miller has taken control of the wheel and steered the bus safely away from not only oncoming traffic, pedestrians, more than three parked cars but away from the Mini Mart building itself." The store presented a certificate of appreciation to the "true little hero". "For her selfless and quick thinking act of courage and bravery in which if she hadn't done what she did, Wednesday afternoon could've ended catastrophically," the post read. "All the team at North Casino Mini Mart are in debt and just super thankful for this beautiful young lady." Richmond Valley mayor Robert Munstow also congratulated Ms Miller and said he would be following up with further recognition for her efforts. "Well done Izzy for your quick thinking and response of diverting what could have been a severe incident," he said in a comment on the post. "I recognise and thank you for your bravery."
