THE Bendigo Bank Bombers have added further firepower to their list with the signing of last year’s VFL leading goalkicker.Matthew Little was the standout forward in the VFL last year, booting 84 goals in 20 games for Williamstown. However, in a recruiting coup, the Bombers yesterday announced that Little had signed with the club for the 2011 VFL season. The addition of Little follows the signing by the Bombers last week of Kangaroo Flat’s Bendigo Football League century goalkicker Justin Maddern.Little has spent the past three seasons with Williamstown, during which he has kicked 178 goals in 55 senior matches. The 25-year-old is a cousin of Essendon coach James Hird and has previously spent time on Hawthorn’s list.Little was drafted to the Hawks with pick 26 in the 2004 National Draft from the Calder Cannons. He played one AFL game for Hawthorn – against St Kilda in round 16, 2007 – before he was delisted at the end of that season.“Matthew is a top-quality footballer and his skill and experience will make a major difference to our team in the coming season,’’ Bombers coach Shannon Grant said yesterday.“He’s brilliant around the forward line and will trouble every defensive unit in the league“In addition to that, his experience at AFL level and in the VFL will be a major factor in supporting our younger players.“We’ve recently signed Justin Maddern, who is also a top-quality forward, so we’re really building an attack that’s got class written all over it.“With quality players of their calibre, we’re going to have a lot of flexibility in our game plans and we’ll be able to maintain the pressure on opposing sides to a much greater degree than we could in 2010.”n Little’s goal hauls in 2010: 7, 5, 2, 2, 5, 5, 5, 3, 2, 8, 7, 4, 4, 5, 0, 6, 5, 5, 3 and 1, plus seven in the state game against Western Australia.
