Full job description

Your new company

Your new company is a leading defence prime based in central Melbourne. With this business, you will have the opportunity to work on leading and innovative defence technologies and projects across the globe. Enjoying flexible working arrangements and a supportive team environment, this opportunity is best suited to those with motivation and drive to excel their career whilst enjoying a work life balance.

Your new role

Utilising your Systems safety engineering experience and skills, you will be responsible for performing System Safety Engineering duties and delivering and supporting System Safety for specific defence products that are engineered and deployed to customers worldwide. Key tasks include:

  • Representing the company from a safety-by-design perspective to clarify critical requirements, expected performance outputs and success criteria.
  • Assimilate complex system/product failure information, analyse the collective safety-by-design inputs with a focus on identifying any likely physical and/or functional system hazards.
  • Articulate the identified physical and functional hazards with the relevant project stakeholders to determine an effective treatment plan that is resilient to regulatory scrutiny.
  • Be pro-active in engaging with the project leadership, product development, systems engineering, test engineering, ILS, and software teams to interrogate the system failure modes and ascertain the respective safety impacts to be resolved.
  • Be able to document safety related issues in stakeholder terms.
  • Conflict manage demanding, uncompromising, and impatient customer-side technical counterparts to win their confidence and successfully deliver agreed mutually acceptable safety-by-design outcomes.
  • Work with project team product delivery plans to ensure that system safety inputs are available in time to inform their decisions for successfully passing required project gates.
  • Plan, build, execute (deliver) and document safety-by-design engineering programs to ensure that the final delivered system is safe, regulatory compliant and fit for purpose.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NV1 clearance or Eligibility (Australian Citizenship is Mandatory).
  • Bachelor of Engineering, or similar degree,
  • Ideally over three years experience within System Safety engineering.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Company Safety Policy, System Safety Awareness Programs, and Safety Management Plans and Procedures
  • Experience in conducting System Safety Assessments, Audits, and Working Groups
  • Experience in performing and producing System Reliability, Availability, Maintenance and Safety (RAMS) analysis and procedures
  • Experience in performing and producing Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Experience in Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience with System Safety Tools and Databases
  • Experience in producing System Safety Case and Hazard Logs

What you'll get in return

You will be working with a business that truly values their employee's. Working in a flexible and supportive culture, whilst being given the opportunity to work autonomously and progress and develop your own career. This position attracts a competitive salary, and NV1 sponsorship for those with Australian Citizenship.
