Senior Economist & Economist Modeller $ 120000 - $ 150000 Annual Salary Canberra Private Sector Permanent Opportunity Competitive Salary We are currently working with a largeprivate sector client who has a need for a Senior Economist as well as a Senior Economist/Modeller to join themon a permanent basis. Senior Economist Monitor the work of relevant regulatory agencies and undertake analysis of various regulatory rule changes and reviews that evolve from this work and assist the business to develop suitable responses including collating material, developing arguments and preparing written submissions and presentation material as required. Develop relationships with relevant officers in regulatory agencies. Undertake research and analysis of ongoing regulatory issues and use this information to guide responses to regulatory reviews. Contribute to the development of context and framework issues for preparation of customer focussed regulatory submissions. Review past regulatory decisions for positions and precedents and advise on lessons and insights that influence regulatory outcomes. Provide advice on studies to be undertaken for each regulatory case to support submissions and identify any additional research required. Assist with managing consulting projects to obtain expert input to pricing and regulatory reviews. Review submission material and identify strengths, weaknesses, gaps and action required. Monitor consistency of regulatory arguments across the business areas. Prepare Board papers and other communications to the relevant executive committees, other management forums and consumer forums. Senior Economist/Modeller Maintain and develop regulatory and financial models to support the team with revenue resets, regulatory submissions and analysis. Undertake options analysis, scenario modelling exercises and prepare business cases to support regulatory decision making. With guidance, respond to ongoing regulatory issues including incentives for service standards, the form of regulation, benchmarking and cases for passing though unforeseen costs. Co-ordinate responses and collate material to present evidence and prepare arguments and positions on specific regulatory matters. Ensure a solid and defensible position on specific issues in regulatory cases. Assist with the preparation of responses to regulatory reports, including issues papers, discussion papers and draft decisions. Assist with managing consulting projects to obtain expert input to pricing and regulatory reviews. Support the determination and implementation process for annual price re-sets for water, waste-water, electricity and gas retail and network prices and miscellaneous fees and charges. Assist with the development of pricing policies and strategies. Contribute to the analysis of pricing options including structures and levels of prices and studies into costs of supply, cross subsidies, price elasticity and price comparisons. Undertake economic analysis to assist planning of major capital and operational expenditure. Conduct economic appraisals of proposed capital work investments. Candidates must havea degree in Finance, Economics or related fields, security clearance is highly advantageous.
