The Hospital Research Foundation Group is seeking an outstanding individual to join the Parkinson's ACT team as an Occupational Therapist.

The Hospital Research Foundation Group is an impactful and dynamic not-for-profit, which supports health and medical research at hospitals across South Australia. THRF Group - Parkinson's ACT is one of The Hospital Research Foundation Group charities. 

THRF Group - Parkinson’s ACT is a not-for-profit organisation that has provided support and information to people living with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders, their carers, family, community and health professionals for over 35 years. 

The organisation represents and supports the 2,000 people with Parkinson’s in the ACT and their family members. The organisation provides support across the continuum of the condition, from diagnosis, through the early stages and throughout the progression of the disease. THRF Group - Parkinson’s ACT provides expert information and support services that no private or government agency offers. 

Reporting to the Senior Occupational Therapist, the Graduate Occupational Therapist will provide support to clients of Parkinson's ACT. The Graduate Occupational Therapist is responsible for completion of assessments, interpretation of assessment findings, and the formulation and implementation of Occupational Therapy intervention plans in collaboration with clients, primary support people and other relevant clinicians. 

The role of the Graduate Occupational Therapist is to develop and deliver services and products to maximise choice, independence and wellbeing for people affected by Parkinson's and other neurological / movement disorders.

The successful applicants must have: 

  • An understanding of the pathophysiology and Occupational Therapy intervention plans for neurological conditions.
  • The ability to deliver advice and education in a comprehensive and professional manner.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A general understanding of NDIS, Medicare and My Aged Care.
  • Sound communication skills and ability to build rapport with members of all ages, cultures and backgrounds.
  • The ability to interact with clients to create professional relationships based on trust.
  • A passion to improve the physical health and quality of life of people affected by neurological/movement disorders.
  • The ability to work collaboratively or autonomously.
  • A genuine interest in seeking professional development opportunities.
  • Organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, problem solve, negotiate, be flexible and demonstrate initiative.
  • The ability to engage in  and develop reflective practice skills.
  • Department of Human Services - Disability services employment screen
  • Accreditation with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
