The 24-year-old from California Gully was driving back from a concert in Melbourne with a friend late on Saturday night when she pulled over to an emergency exit lane near Calder Park Raceway.
While she was trying to get a CD from the back seat, a ute smashed into the back of her sedan.
A female passenger survived the crash.
Kites and candles that spelled out the letter H were arranged by a group of friends on Sunday night as a tribute to Hailey.
Friend Joel McGrath said Hailey was someone who all her friends looked up to.
“She is the cliche of someone who has passed, but it’s true that she was an amazing person,” he said.
“She was a beautifully caring person who treated everyone equally. She’s been taken far too soon.”
A gathering for Hailey’s friends and co-workers is being arranged by friends for tonight at the Metro and Pugg Mahones Irish Bar.
3BO presenter Beck Chalmers posted a tribute to her friend Hailey on the station’s Facebook page.
“Heartfelt condolences to her friends and family from the 3BO Team. R.I.P. My beautiful, amazing friend.”
“She was loved and adored by the community... I was so happy to have her in my life, albeit a short time but there are many others who will have their lives changed by this tragedy forever. This is for them.”
Another post from Tania Blow wrote that Hailey was a “lovely girl”.
“Her smiling face and passion in her work will be sadly missed. My condolences to her family and friends.”
The Victoria Police major collision investigations unit was yesterday continuing its investigation.
A spokeswoman said police were still hoping that witnesses to the crash would come forward.
