It is believed a vehicle caught alight about 8.23am on Monday.
Traffic was diverted away from the scene along Hope Street.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said the fire was under control.
"Approximately eight firefighters responded to a truck fire in Bendigo on Monday morning," she said.
"FRV crews were called to the Hope Street incident at 8:23am after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported flames coming from the truck.
"Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes and attacked the fire, bringing it under control within seven minutes."
Barnard Street was closed for some time with emergency services on the scene to detour traffic.
