REMAINING impartial about something you are passionate about is extremely difficult. But I’ll try.The final instalment of the Harry Potter film series has already met with rave reviews.Critics are hailing it as action packed from start to finish and they are right.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 sees Harry, Ron and Hermione deep in their quest to defeat and destroy Lord Voldemort. But unfortunately for them, Voldemort has cottoned on to their plan and is doing his utmost to stop it.As this film follows on from Deathly Hallows part 1 (obviously), part 2 is packed full of schemes, plots, adventures, duels, humour and emotion. It is almost to the point of information overload. As a loyal reader it was easy for me to follow certain sub-plots and storylines but for the average muggle (non-magic folk) it may come across as quite difficult. That’s not to say that Deathly Hallows part 2 is bad to watch. It is brilliant.David Yates has been at the directorial helm of the Potter movies since Order of the Phoenix (2007) and retaining the same director and style for four films pays off at the end.Yates has clearly worked closely with author JK Rowling to get the details of Harry’s final chapter just right.Harry Potter fans may be outraged at the cutting of favourite characters, moments or scenes but they should remember the films are not tailored specifically to hardcore fans.Certain scenes will be exactly as fans want them while other ideas or characters have been altered to suit not only the Hollywood world, but also people who aren’t right up with the wizarding world. But having read the books and knowing what was coming, part of me was impatient to see certain scenes.Highlights of the film include breaking into Gringotts Bank, a lengthy and highly enlightening conversation between Harry and his mentor, the discovery of character’s true colours and the final battle for Hogwarts.People who have seen the films from the beginning will know how talented the cast already is but as the story winds to its conclusion, certain performances stand out.Alan Rickman as Severus Snape is particularly brilliant and Matthew Lewis’ Neville Longbottom has grown from a timid, clumsy boy into a courageous leader.Rupert Grint also stood out for me after playing a backseat to Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson for so long. Ron gets to star and fans will love it.Finally, Ralph Fiennes’ performance as the evil Lord Voldemort will impress audiences. But it is also thanks to Yates’ decision to teach us more about the Dark Lord that this works so well.If you have seen the remainder of the Potter films, it seems silly not to finish the story. You will be far from disappointed and may even want to watch it again... straight away.Verdict 4/5.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (M) is now showing at Bendigo Cinemas.
