Madgen voted Bendigo Spirit's most valuable player

BRILLIANT guard-forward Tess Madgen capped her first season with the Bendigo Bank Spirit by winning the Women’s National Basketball League club’s most valuable player award.Madgen, 21, played a crucial role in the Spirit’s run to third place in their fourth year in elite competition.The graduate from the AIS led the Spirit’s attack on 372 points at 15.5 per game to be fourth on the league’s leading scorers board.The MVP announcement was a highlight of Saturday’s presentation night at Bendigo Stadium.Spirit coach Bernie Harrower said Madgen “made things happen” in many matches.“Tess played a lot of great games for us,” he said.“This season was one of the highlights of my coaching career,” Harrower said of a stint lasting more than 30 years.The Spirit’s most improved award was presented to Heather Oliver, and guard Jane Chalmers earned the coaches award.The Players’ Player was Andrea Wilson. The MGR Accountants volunteer award went to the signage set-up crew, and team manager Kylee Harrower earned the Spirit’s outstanding contributor award.
