UP to 200 Bendigo couples travelling to Melbourne in the hope of realising their dream to be parents have been spared some of the burden.Monash IVF is now operating from Bendigo Day Surgery, which designed theatre one specifically to meet the needs of IVF clients.Every six weeks, the specialist IVF team will travel to Bendigo to per form egg retrieval, transfers, freezing and storage, counselling and biopsies, among a range of other procedures. They will be supported by local private obstetricians and fertility clinicians Dr Mark Jalland, Dr Robin Monro and Dr John Cullen.About 15 per cent of couples are unable to conceive a child after 12 months of trying. While the solutions are straightforward for some, others require specialised investigations and treatments from an infertility clinic.Bendigo Day Surgery office manager Janine Hilson said the staff were excited to offer such a rewarding service to those couples.“We’re all parents and grand parents . . . it’s really close to our hearts,” she said.“It is very exciting, we can’t wait to hear of our first baby.”Bendigo Day Surgery is a private stand-alone hospital which opened in November last year. The 22-bed facility offers surgeries including endoscopy, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopaedic, urology, oral and maxilla-facial surgery as well as ophthalmic, ear, nose and throat and gynaecology.
