Bendigo man held on murder charge

A BENDIGO man charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Melbourne's west appeared in court yesterday.Jason Baxter, 23, of North Bendigo, was arrested in Footscray on Christmas eve and charged with murdering a 36-year-old man last week.Police said the victim was taken to the Western Hospital at Footscray at 12.25am on December 18 after he was stabbed in an incident at Braybrook.He suffered multiple stab wounds and died a short time later.Police said the victim was taken to hospital by a man and woman in a car.Detective Senior-Sergeant Charlie Bezzina, from the Homicide Squad, said Baxter appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday for a mention.He said Baxter was further remanded in custody to appear in court again on April 17, next year.There was no application for bail yesterday.
