Four units from Kyneton and Malmsbury were called to the scene on Edgecombe Road, one kilometre from the Calder Freeway, at 5.50pm.
The three-tonne front-end loader was fully engulfed in flames but crews were able to control it by 6.09pm.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said there were no injuries.
"There was also a 30 metre by 5 metre patch of hydraulic oil that was spilled," the spokesman said.
There is no indication to what caused the tractor to catch fire.
