The youngsters took part in pirate-themed fun, including storytime with Captain Dirk, Bendigo’s resident pirate.
Presenter Lorraine Barrack said almost 60 children dressed as pirates and took part in singing and dancing, followed by a craft activity.
“It’s great fun, the kids love it, they love dressing up,” she said.
This year is the 12th international talk like a pirate day, which was started by friends Ol’ Chumbucket (aka John Baur) and Cap’n Slappy (aka Mark Summers) over a game of racquetball in 1995. The “pirate slang” from that day stuck, and over 100 pirate events are planned worldwide this year.
