A passer-by discovered the 49-year-olds body in the creek off Oak Street just before 10am.
Search and Rescue divers retrieved the man’s body and his pushbike from the water.
His death is not being treated as suspicious but the cause of death remains unclear.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
2.29pm: Police are not treating the death of a man retrieved from Bendigo Creek as suspicious.
The body was discovered partially submerged near the intersection of Oak Street and High Street shortly before 10am on Thursday.
A bicycle was found near the body.
Police are still investigating circumstances surrounding the death.
It is unclear how long the body had been at the scene before it was found.
2.00pm: Search and Rescue have retrieved the body from the creek.
Roadblocks remain in place.
1.33pm: Search and Rescue have arrived on the scene, after a body was discovered in Golden Square this morning.
Search and Rescue will extract the body from the creek where it is partially submerged.
1.05pm: Oak Street in Golden Square remains closed to traffic near High Street as police wait for the Search and Rescue team to retrieve a man’s body from Bendigo Creek.
The body was discovered by a passer-by partially submerged in the water near a path under a bridge about 10am.
A crime scene has been established under the bridge, which is near the intersection of Oak and MacKenzie Street West.
Oak Street is closed from High Street to MacKenzie Street West.
Two police vehicles remain at the scene.
11:35am: Police have confirmed a man’s body has been discovered partially submerged in Bendigo Creek in Golden Square.
A passer-by discovered the body of a man in the creek just off Oak Street, near the intersection with MacKenzie Street West, just before 10am.
The body was in the water alongside a path that runs under a bridge on Oak Street.
Police are at the scene awaiting the arrival of a search and rescue team to extract the body and the area has been cordoned off.
Oak Street is blocked between High Street and MacKenzie Street West. Traffic coming south along Oak Street is being diverted along MacKenzie Street West.
No traffic can turn from High Street onto Oak Street.
Trucks are being allowed through.

11am: Police are conducting an operation between Oak Street and MacKenzie Street West in Golden Square.
The road is blocked at the intersection of Oak and High streets, with traffic being prevented from turning into Oak Street.
Vic Roads confirmed that the High Street/Oak Street intersection was closed due to a police incident.
The road closure is under police control.
It was unclear when the road would re-open and VicRoads has advised people to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
