The Hawks won 13.18 (96) to 6.8 (44) thanks largely to be a big first half.
Eaglehawk kicked nine goals to one in the first half to lead by 58 points and the Borough looked set to win by 20 goals.
Winless Maryborough had other ideas and produced its best half of the season to outscore the Hawks 5.6 to 4.6 after the main break.
“Maryborough had a real crack in the second half and they weren’t bad at all,’’ Eaglehawk coach Josh Bowe said.
“They (Maryborough) didn’t play a loose man in defence… they basically went one-on-one.
“I thought our pressure and intensity was really good in the first half, but after half time we fell away.
“Maryborough lifted and we dropped off.”
Riley Saunders probably added more Michelsen Medal votes to his name, while Sam Harper, Tyler Miles and Jesse Collins all played well.
Full-forward Matt Gretgrix bagged five goals for the Hawks.
For Maryborough, Coby Perry played his best game of the season, while Bodie Malone, Ethan Grech and Connor O’Shea all impressed.
It was a pleasing performance by Maryborough ahead of next week’s clash with Castlemaine.
Bowe said Eaglehawk got through the game injury-free. The Hawks now prepare for their eagerly-anticipated clash with reigning premier Strathfieldsaye at Tannery Lane.
