The fire broke out at the corner of the Bendigo-Murchison Road and the Northern Highway at Creek View, east of Goornong.
CFA District 20 operations officer John Cutting said firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly.
But a fire investigator is on the way to the scene, as it is believed the fire might have been deliberately lit.
Mr Cutting said there were eight suspicious fires along Finlay Road at Tongala on March 8, about 1.30pm, for which investigators were still seeking information.
He warned that the landscape was very dry, and as witnessed in the state’s south-west recently, fires could still spread rapidly and become destructive with wind.
Anyone who might have seen anything suspicious at the sites of the fires is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
