The festival, part of the Bendigo Inventor Awards, will include a hackathon, a two-day symposium, a pitchfest and workshops, as well as the announcement of the winners of the 2018 Bendigo Inventor Awards.
Be.Bendigo project director David Hughes said the organisation was always looking for new ideas to deliver the Bendigo Inventor Awards.
“Last year we introduced the Festival of Failure and a hackathon as part of the program,” Mr Hughes said
“This year, we are taking it to a whole new level with the Bendigo Invention and Innovation Festival.”
This year, the awards will have three new categories: health, agriculture and environmental sustainability.
In 2018 the awards will not focus on emergency services and disaster management, as they have for the past few events, but have multiple themes to broaden their appeal.
Last year’s awards attracted entries from across Australia and internationally.
The awards were established in 2010 and in 2016, Be.Bendigo took over the reins.
Mr Hughes said there was little knowledge of or support for inventors when the awards came into being.
“We now have a regionally based accelerator right here in Bendigo with La Trobe University, along with several co-working spaces,” he said.
The Bendigo Inventor Awards will be launched on March 26.
