The man in his 20s, who was on his P2 licence at the time, was sentenced in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
He was spotted driving at 147 km/h in his Holden Commodore on the Calder at Leichardt, between Marong and Bridgewater, at 9.30pm on September 10 last year.
The section of highway is 100 km/h.
When pulled over by police, he admitted he had overslept and was running late for work.
His car was impounded, and he has since paid the impound fee.
Magistrate Sarah Leighfield said the man needed to have more respect for the road rules.
“Driving at that speed is obviously really dangerous, both to yourself and to everybody else on the road,” she said.
“Having your licence is a privilege, it’s not a right.”
His licence was disqualified for the mandatory 12 months, to begin on Monday.
He was also fined $1800, but avoided conviction, and was ordered to complete a safe driver program.
