Considered one of the greatest North Indian classical musicians of his generation, Shujaat Khan is on his first tour of Australia.
He was nominated for a Grammy in 2004 in the best traditional world music album for his record The Rain.
During his career, Shujaat Khan has been a regularly featured artist at prestigious concert halls including Royal Albert Hall in London, Royce Hall in Los Angeles, and Congress Hall in Berlin.
He belongs to the Imdad Khan gharana of the sitar and his style of playing sitar, known as the “gayaki ang”, is imitative of the subtleties of the human voice.
Tabla player Jay Dabgar will accompany Shujaat Khan during his tour. Dabgar will bring 24 years of Tabla playing experience to the shows.
Ustad Shujaat Khan and Jay Dabgar play at the Theatre Royal on Sunday, March 18, from 7.30pm.
